Vans Dawn of the shred 5

So just last weekend it was the Vans Dawn of the Shred 5 up in Scotland, Avimore in the cairngorms mountains. As it was my first time up there riding i didn't have a clue what to expect. when i got there it was really sunny and the park looked sick. There was a slight downward breeze which helped clear the kicker which was really gnarly! To get the speed for it you had to straight line from the drop-in which was at the top of the rails.

Practice went really well but then the wind started to pick up so i felt nervous about doing my run. when it came to the comp the format was 2 kicker runs and 1 rail run, Stomped both of my kicker runs and landed a nice clean rail run so i was pleased with that :) There was about 60 riders that turned up and entered! Had an awesome day, managed to come 1st overall and won best kicker trick with a Bs 7. Also Well done to Angus leith who was riding really well and came 2nd.

And thanks to Gregor and his family for letting me stay at their place it was really kind of them. Was really good to see Gregor for the first time since his accident in breckenridge back in december 2010. he's doing really well and i'm pretty sure it wont be long till he's be back on his snowboard. :)

BRITS 2011 ( 20th-27th march )

HEY.
So after the One Snowboarding camp it was the Brits 2011 ( The british Snowboard Championships ) in Laax, Switzerland. All week the weather was amazing so all the comps went down with a bang with the standard of riding just exploding with double corks going down left right and centre in big air and slopestyle, plus Dom and Ben trying them in pipe.

This years brits for me went really well getting overall 2nd in slopestyle, 3rd in Big air and 4th in Halfpipe which i was really stoked about. in big air my 1st jump was a BS double cork10 and my 2nd jump was a BS rodeo 7.
Halfpipe was really good fun as it had just been reshaped the day before and the sun was shining as-well. my qualification run went really well as i qualified in 3rd place in front of Dan Wakeham :D . but ended up coming 4th overall as dan put down a sick run to knock me out of podium position.
Also it was great to see dom harrington there riding (who attempted a double Mctwist 12 ) and also olympians Dan Wakeham & ben kilner were there too, also throwing down doubles. Had so much fun riding with them.

In slopestyle i landed my rail tricks but fell on the second kicker so it was all up to my last run. landed my rail tricks and went all out on the jumps doing back double 10 on the first kicker to a bs rodeo then to a cab 9. was really stoked to land that run as i had only just learned those 3 tricks just a few weeks ago :)

No Internet! :(

Hey! sorry i haven't updated my blog in a while. since going back out to europe in march i had no internet for ages which really sucked and i was unable to update it, but when i did get internet eventually i was busy competing and having a awesome time in Laax, Switzerland for the BRITS.

Anyway whilst i was out in mayrhofen with the british freestyle team it was blue-bird sky for the whole time i was out there which was great. The kickers were nicely shaped and the landing were really slushy so it was the perfect time to learn some new tricks for the brits comp in a few weeks time.

Peace
Sam.
